It looks like all the races were fairly close. Perhaps times are a changing?
Here's the FBNow report:
Final Runoff Results: Gillen, Cordes, Childers Win Locally; Zerwas Takes 28th
Unofficial final Fort Bend County runoff election results show Bud Childers pulling a squeaker to win out over Nina Schaefer for judge of County Court-at-Law No. 1.
Roy Cordes Jr. also won, which makes him the newest Fort Bend County Attorney.
And Gary Gillen won a close race against Linda Howell to succeed long-timer Eric Thode and become Fort Bend County Republican Party chairman.
Childers came from behind to end up with 3,975 votes, or 50.88%, while Schaefer took 3,837 votes, or 49.12% of the total.
Cordes won handily, taking 4,761, or 61.9%, to Carolyn McDaniel’s 2,931 votes, or 38.1%.
Gillen snatched victory in another close race, garnering 4,046, or 51.22% of the votes to Howell’s 3,854, or 48.78%.
John Zerwas easily took Fort Bend County in the runoff for state House District 28, with 1,653 votes, or 74.53%, compared with 565 votes, or 25.47% for David Melanson.
Zerwas took the district seat, too, but in a much closer race, winning 2,640, or 53.13% of the vote, compared with 2,329, or 46.87% for Melanson.
It must have been that on-again, off-again endorsement by Delay's hand picked successor Wallace (Perry Employee) that put Gillen over. Some big favors are due on this one! The "old guard" just keeps hanging on, but it keeps getting closer--doesn't it. It won't be long now.
Go Mitton & Poats, Dieu, and any reform candidates from all parties! If your still in the race then take the pledge against special interest funding and all out of area gifts as the previously mentioned candidates have. Let's change the political-industry and give it back to the voters...
