Chronicle: MORE Broken Promises On Texas Parkway In Missouri City?
Karen Hastings
A soccer game in Roane Park brought me to Missouri City last weekend and provided a chance to drive down Texas Parkway with people who had never seen it before. I found myself explaining about the Texas Parkway/Cartwright Road redevelopment project and looking at the area with fresh eyes.
I'd been there with my pen and notebook while groups of business representatives and residents met last spring to imagine what Texas Parkway could look like if it shed a few nail salons, open ditches and shuttered businesses and remerged as a gateway thoroughfare with sidewalk cafes, nice landscaping and, in some architect renderings, a clock tower!
Is that image just a tantalizing mirage, out of reach, or does picturing the goal help make it happen? I checked in with developer George E. Johnson, who is scheduled to give a final master plan report on the project next month to the Missouri City City Council. . .
