KHOU Part II 5-21-10: http://www.khou.com/home/related/Tracking-Property-Crimes-in-Houstons-Largest-Suburb-Communities-94586799.html

"Across the country, home burglaries, car burglaries and auto thefts are on the rise. So for months, 11 News has been looking into the numbers and pulling property crime reports for 10 of Houston’s biggest suburban communities.

We then took those numbers to a nationally recognized institute (NICAR) to have them analyzed. Here’s what they uncovered: Ranking communities as high, average and low, the property crime rate per capita was the highest in Humble and Missouri City – even higher than what was found in Houston." bluevibe said on May 21, 2010 at 8:01 AMI'm not sure any of this has anything to do with anything. Crime can change almost from block to block. There are apartment complexes near me that have more crime than my subdivision, and I'm not far from FM 1960 and I-45, which has gotten to be fairly dangerous, but in my subdivision specifically, "crime" usually means kids smashing mailboxes. I think we had one or two incidences with a flasher about ten years ago, and some kid got arrested for stealing mail this past Christmas, and that's about it. I don't know where Spring would fall overall on the crime spectrum, but it varies greatly.Flag this commentrl123 said on May 21, 2010 at 7:18 AMSam Houston once said, Texas has yet to learn the meaning of submission from any opression, be it foreign or domestic. A lot of crime (about half overall) isn't even reported to the police, and the reporting practices of police departments vary far more than they should. One should take this information with a sizable block of salt.Flag this commentaphrodz said on May 20, 2010 at 10:29 PMI have been living in League City for almost three years. So I will be selling my house real soon! People may think that is racist, all I can say is watch the news and you will see.Flag this commentretiredtexan said on May 20, 2010 at 9:35 PMPeople in the suburbs purchase more firearms and that being known by the criminals, would rather take their chances in the larger cities. 90% of all homes in the suburbs own one or more firearms in the stare of Texas, where less than half that in the cities.

I remember when Missouri City used population from an area of their ETJ that their police don't service in 2007-2009 to make the CQ "safest cities" list but on this report the violent crime per capita is actually higher than Houston proper. How did they get away with that? Perhaps the UCR-FBI should no longer accept cities self-reports or insist on an Affidavit from an official who then can be called on the mat for lying to CQ and the public?Flag this commenthooey said on May 21, 2010 at 8:26 AM"I would say Sugar Land is very safe," said Griffith. transparency1 said on May 23, 2010 at 10:12 AMI lived in an HOA that did everything to keep from reporting crime in the newsletter. We were serviced by the Sheriffs office and had to make requests at that time to get the crime reports or hope the newspaper picked them up. HOAs are no deterrent to crime, as a matter of fact they often told residents they do not handle such complaints and to call the SO who charged us additional fees to patrol our neighborhood (it used to be the constables that did that). How's that for service? We pay taxes for them to patrol and an additional service fee for security (pay twice). Anytime we asked for proof we were getting more patrols because of the extra fees we were told we were but they didn't have anyway to document it.Flag this commentbossdogg said on May 21, 2010 at 10:09 PMI must say that Conroe have always had its share of crime, I guess with a city with a population of over 53,000 your will have some type of criminal activity. You also have to be more careful on rainy days because criminals do their best work then because people are not out wandering around so their are less people watching. Criminals are slick and I have learnt alot on how to keep yourself safe. You never know who is watching you.Flag this commentlbrando said on May 22, 2010 at 10:43 AMI disagree with you xxxxoooo, alot of these criminals ripping people off don't want a real job because they make more money ripping off houses. Why work a minimum wage job. I know someone who used to do it as a living years ago, he would steal a truck or SUV from one part of town, drive to another part of town and rip off 3 or 4 houses a day, he then took the vehicle and everything that he had stolen and took it to a chop shop where they bought the vehicle and everything in it for 3 or $4000. He 'worked' 3 or 4 days a week and would make $10,000 in one week. This was his job. He said that he would eat, sometime take showers and change clothes in the peoples houses. He would watch people and see what their habits were and then he knew that he was safe for the day.Flag this commentoxoxoxoxo said on May 22, 2010 at 10:13 AMThink jobs people need a job. I think what is extremely interesting is the level of deceit some elected officials and their minions are willing to go through in order to continue to keep information from the public. Selling homes seems to be the priority for the big builders and developers as is evident via the campaign finance reports of some MC council members like the mayor, ngyuen and now Mr. Wyatt:
