Local Candidate (Prescott Small) Runs Against Houston Special Interests Incumbent (Bob Hebert) for Chief County Judge!

--As this years election season continues we want to make voting options available to the readers. Please consider voting a mixed ticket this election cycle. We are interviewing area candidates and will share those here as the season continues along with the standard information posts. So far we have talked with Larry Blackmon (R) running against Grady Prestage (D), a developer and incumbent, for county commissioners court and Tom Campbell (R) running against Tom Delay for his congressional seat. We are also backing an alternative area candidate to run against Missouri City developer-backed mayor Allen Owen (this local business professional and community activist will announce soon).

As many of you remember Mr. Owen was a strong advocate for the February '05 vote which indirectly allowed 2700 apartment units into our neighborhood. After the vote it was discovered he had been receiving nearly 60% of his campaign contributions from Houston area developers and the #2 contributor was Larry Johnson of JDC (Sienna Plantation). City ethics complaints were filed against the mayor for not recusing himself in the voting on July 18th which was followed by a JDC developer's strike suit (SLAPP suit) in August against members of this community heading the petition drive against Mr. Owen & the JDC apartments.

If you are following the airport expansion controversy you may want to keep an eye on the Arcola city council races. It has been reported that several candidates are running to take back the current EDC backed group running that town.

"City, County & Community Announcements

Prescott Small Announces Candidacy For County Judge

Prescott Small of Stafford announces his candidacy as the Democratic nominee for Fort Bend County Judge. He said he is running not merely to oppose one man, but to offer new fresh leadership and a new openness to county government.

Prescott graduated from high school with honors and attended the University of Arizona. For the past eight years, Prescott has had a successful career in Information Technology. He works for a Fortune 500 Company in the area of security and anti-intrusion systems. He has worked on projects all over the globe with budgets up to over $30 million. All projects were completed on time and on budget.

Prescott will represent and work hard for the taxpayers of Fort Bend County. Unfortunately, he said, the incumbent “only listens to developers and no-bid vendors to the county who give large campaign contributions.” Prescott promises to never accept money from developers and vendors seeking no-bid contracts, making it clear that this county and its development is not for sale.

Prescott will not use the county payroll to reward political cronies with jobs. He said the incumbent, who claims to be a fiscal conservative, has bloated the county bureaucracy with political patronage for his cronies. Prescott believes we need to give the hard working county employees a well-deserved pay raise. “They deserve it, not the big raises to political appointees and officials,”

Prescott is committed to helping Stafford Mayor Leonard Scarcella bring a light rail system from Houston into Fort Bend County. The incumbent, Small said, “along with his friend, Tom DeLay, have continually blocked efforts to bring 21st Century solutions to mobility. Instead, they do the developers’ bidding.”

Prescott strongly supports Texas’ new disclosure laws concerning conflict of interest and gifts and donations from lobbyists. The incumbent, he said, opposes such disclosures.

Prescott lives with his wife Alex, a lawyer, in Stafford."

Good luck Prescott!!!

Very strong words regarding fiscal conservatism. Can we really be seeing a return to these ideals by some Democrats? Or perhaps this comes from his republican roots.

The incumbent, Small said, “along with his friend, Tom DeLay, have continually blocked efforts to bring 21st Century solutions to mobility. Instead, they do the developers’ bidding.” -Small

I must say this is refreshing to see in a county controlled by Houston special interests!

Doesn't this really say it all. This is Fort Bend County politics.

What about Rosie Rojas? She didn't vote for the road diversion/closure or airport expansion and she's on the Arcola city council and didn't former mayor Saenz speak up against it?

This is a refreshing promise but is it one he can keep?

I just saw your post over at my blog. I'll try to post more at my blog and over at yours too. I've got a lot more time now to devote to politics.

I don't know too much yet about Campbell. But I ofcourse am a big supporter of Lampson.

And I'm also a big fan of Prescott. His race is definitly going to be a fun one!

Hi Bryan! I'm going to follow both Lampson and Campbell. If Campbell somehow survives the Delay machine and runs against Lampson I will really flip a coin (if not the choice will be simple). It would be nice to see candidates actually running on issues for a change rather than posturing for special interest contributors. I think if reformers like Campbell & Lampson can hi-jack the system back from the special interests many would get more involved in area voting.

More political information from http://bryanin22.blogspot.com/ :

A Strong Democratic Ticket
It's exciting to be a Democrat in Fort Bend County right now!

Compared to 2004's one county wide candidate, we will have five quality candidates running county wide.

With DeLay's culture of corruption in the headlines daily, the spotlight of our ticket is Nick Lampson. Nick promises to bring integrity and good government back to District 22.

Running against Ron "Dr. No" Paul is Shane Sklar. Shane has already received the prestigious endorsement of the Texas Farm Bureau.

For County Judge we have Stafford resident Prescott Small. Unlike his opponent Bob Herbet, Prescott promises to never accept money from developers and vendors seeking no-bid contracts, making it clear that this county and its development is not for sale.

Running for County Treasurer is Missouri City business woman Neeta Sane. Neeta is highly qualified with two Masters degrees and the experience of starting and managing two successful businesses. She will be running against either Republicans Naren Patel or Jeff Council.

Richmond resident Veronica Torres is running for District Clerk. She has worked as a legal process specialist in the Fort Bend County ClerkÂ’s office, where she said she has served as a clerk for a county court at law, responsible for fee collection, processing and maintaining legal files. She was previously a legal secretary for a local attorney. She will be running against Republicans Anne Elliot or incumbent Glory Hopkins if she manages to get on the ballot.

Rudy Velasquez, long-time Fort Bend resident and currently Senior Assistant City Attorney for the City of Houston, is running for the Democratic nomination for County Court at Law One. Rudy brings years of trial experience in the state and federal Courts to his desire to serve the people of Fort Bend. Rudy will face either Republicans Nina Schaefer, Robert Yack, Bud Childers or Larry Thomas.

Albert Hollan, of Sugar Land, is the Democratic Party candidate for Judge of the 268th District Court. Hollan wants to make jury service more efficient, appoint grand juries that are more representative of the county, and stop the hiring of unelected associate judges. Most importantly, he says that he will restore civility and courtesy in the 268th District Court. He will be running against incumbent Brady Elliot who was publicly censured in 1999 by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct for failing to act in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.

For JP in precinct 3, we have Katy resident Farhan Shamsi. Farhan is dedicated to bringing back basic family values, decency, and common sense to the community. He will be running against either Republicans Nancy Lusk or Ken Cannata.

In the State Rep 27 race, we will have a contested Democratic primary between incumbent Dora Olivo and Steve Brown. The winner will face Republican Ken Bryant.

Incumbent JP for Precinct 2 Joel Clouser will run unoppossed. I

ncumbent CountyCommissionerr Grady Prestage will face Republican Larry Blackmon.

And Incumbent Congressman Al Green will run unoppossed.

Just a heads-up to posters here. Even though I find the Elam site highly offensive it is now facing the same pressure that was exerted on another area website by developer's lawyers over potential trade violations. Of course E won't complain..right? There isn't any such thing as first amendment protections on the web anyway with former corporate judges running the judicial. Watch out bloggers!

Recent court filings in SLAPP suit. Beginning discovery requested for possible deceptive trade praxis and other activity on the part of SJD/JDC. It's good to see the targets in this SLAPP suit getting off their hands and answering in this strike suit against homeowners. Does anyone have an update on the Supreme Court Appeal on this case?:

Here's one JK (hope the interview went well):

A university committee was selecting a new dean. They had narrowed the candidates down to a mathematician, an economist and a lawyer.

Each was asked this question during their interview: "How much is two plus two?"

The mathematician answered immediately, "Four."

The economist thought for several minutes and finally answered, "Four, plus or minus one."

Finally the lawyer stood up, peered around the room and motioned silently for the committee members to gather close to him. In a hushed, conspiratorial tone, he replied, "How much do you want it to be?"

This case by a former Sugar Land mayor had much harsher language than anything presented thus far in this case by SJD (from the FBStar). Notice Bev's comments at the end of the article:

"Former mayor files suit against media personality
-----------------------------------------------

By LeaAnne Klentzman

Former Sugar Land Mayor Dean Hrbacek filed a defamation lawsuit against print and radio personality Jon Matthews this week in Judge Bradley Smith’s 400th District court.

In the plaintiff’s original petition filed on Wednesday, November 20, Hrbacek claims that Star columnist and radio talk show host Jon Matthews, "printed with intent to injure articles containing false, scandalous, slanderous and defamatory material regarding Hrbacek’s private life and his official capacity as a public officer."

Outlined as an example of a personal attack, the suit listed the comment by Matthews: "When you move please take your illegitimate stepson, Brian Gaston with you." The lawsuit states, "Mr. Gaston has absolutely no familial relationship with Hrbacek and the false and defamatory statement was made only for the purpose of causing ridicule and humiliation to Hrbacek." Brian Gaston is a Sugar Land City Council-man and a loyal friend to Hrbacek. The suit states: "Furthermore, Matthews’ publication has caused citizens and voters of Sugar Land, Texas to fail to vote for, or to vote against, Hrbacek as a candidate for public office, and will also affect and influence the citizens and voters to fail to vote for, or to vote against, Hrbacek in elections for public office in the future."

The suit also asserts that because Jon Matthews referred to the then mayor as Mayor Dean "Osama" Hrbacek and Mayor Osama, "Matthews conveyed to the community at large the impression that Hrbacek had similar traits and sympathies as Osama Bin Laden, a recognized terrorist and infamous despot dedicated to the destruction of democracy and freedom throughout the world."

In an attempt to contact Dean Hrbacek for a public comment, a message was left on his office voice mail. Within an hour, a female associate returned the call and said, "He (Hrbacek) is not giving any comments and referring all calls to his attorney, Mark D. Wilson." Mr. Wilson said, "I generally do not try my cases in the media but I will contact Dean and see if he wants to make any comment."

When contacted, Jon Matthews said, "I will never cease to be amazed. I look forward to this challenge and guarantee we shall have a great time." Beverly Carter, publisher of Fort Bend Star newspaper said, "Freedom of speech and a free press are the inalienable rights of all Americans, even in Fort Bend County. I reiterate Jon’s comment, we look forward to the challenge."

A wise man once said, "Never sue someone that buys ink by the barrel..."
I hope Bev will support other freedom of speech issues in her paper.

While I admit to having little use for Tom Delay, I have frequently wondered why he is not being prosecuted in Ft Bend County. Well a friend of mine found the answer and I thought I would pass it along to you

Ok here is some interesting facts for you:

Bob Perry, who is on Healey's donor list, is a huge financial supporter of the Rebublican party and it also shows he gave $165000 to Delay and another $105000 to the Texas Association of Business, thus which was part of the investigation.....lol

Here is the news link:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5844156/

Other info:
http://www.motherjones.com/news/special_reports/mojo_400/207_perry.html

Altogether Perry has handed over close to $1 million to the Republican party in Texas through a group called Texans for a Republican Majority which is an offshoot of Tom DeLay?s Americans for a Republican Majority.

Just google this dipshit for more info. This is why Healey refused to intervene in the Delay case, cause they have a mutual interest.
