Woman survives blast that levels Missouri City home

A 69-year-old Missouri City woman miraculously survived an apparent natural gas explosion early today that destroyed her home and was felt miles away.

Ann Patterson Smith was in an intensive care unit in an area this hospital this morning but her brother said he had visited her and she seemed to be in good shape, escaping the blast at her 3404 Covey Trail home with only minor injuries.

"Her survival is unbelievable,'' said James Patterson, the woman's brother and Precinct Four County Commissioner. "God must be watching over her.'' He said his sister could not recall what exactly happened. . .(click title link above for Chronicle coverage).
