From FBN: Missouri City Residents Ask For Change In Coming Spring Elections!

Rating Missouri City

I see that Missouri City has spent about $62,000 for a company to see why our image is so low. They have compiled a list of our pluses and no where do I see lower taxes on that list. Just recently the citizens had to inundate city hall to protest an ordinance requiring Misery City citizens to be responsible for all infrastructure to the middle of the street. (Ordinance 46-4) Its had a band-aid put over it to satisfy some of the citizens but Id bet the ordinance still requires citizens to be responsible for the streets, curbs, and gutters to the middle of the street. . . MCC comment/editorial: Decades long control of MC council by Houston special interests will be strongly tested again this spring. Hopefully those that live in the city limits of Missouri City will turn out in droves to support challengers and end the politics of division and separation that have dominated the city through the use of intimidation and alienation. Good luck reformers as you work to take back local control, establish term limits and a REAL ethics committee that actually investigates wrongful doing!

We will track this election from the reform perspective up close and personal. Already Nick Lampson and special interest backed mayor Allen Owen have teamed up for an upcoming event. The irony being that Lampson ran against the very political machine Owen is part of to gain his CD-22 seat with promises of change. MCC endorsed Mr. Lampson in his first run, but now offically withdraws it since Lampson is accepting the the same special interest campaign financing that Owen and the network have long used to maintain control of the area. Much has changed in little over a year. So don't follow the party, follow the money and watch the incumbents voting patterns. Already Owen has opposed CAD caps, rate CAPs and supported higher taxes consistently as well as voted for thousands of additional apartments in the Sienna hwy 6 area and Colonial drive communities (is this in your best interests?). VOTE-VOTE-VOTE!

Stay tuned for more!

We are ridiculously low when compared to other cities in this area. Of course dont compare us to Sugar Land. We dont compare, we have been left in the dust, mostly due to an ineffective city council and mayor. They do things the easy way, raise taxes rather than tightening their belts. This ordinance 46-6 was given teeth the day after a July 4th holiday when most folks were still celebrating and noone would notice the passing of the ordinance. Kevin Tunstall said it right, “This council takes the easy way out every time rather than the hard way, which is tightening your belt and reducing spending,, Start with the 62000 study ,, what a waste. Next yar we need to send a message and get rid of the reason this city is so far behind Sugar Land.. Sorry Jerry, Im comparing you to Sugar Land..

You know at first I thought that the purchase of the QV golf course had some good elements and the Council finally did something right. I’m having second thoughts as more info comes out about the money it will take to purchase, improve and run this course. Somehow the Council figured that they could get the course for a little over $3 million but I’m very doubtful. Everything now points toward an investment of $15 to $25 million to get it profitable. I figure a purchase price of $10 to $15 million is about what an arbitrator is going to decide is fair. Improvements will take at least another $5 to $10 million to make the course attractive and playable. Also, It won’t take much of a monthly deficit for MoCity residents to start seeing that this was a bad deal, especially when their taxes start to go up.

So, the Council makes a bad call, jumps at this deal upon the recommendation of the Quail Valley members of the Council and the residents pay for their mistake. Sound familiar?

Having lived in Missouri City for over twenty-five years, I have had an opportunity to observe the changes that have taken place. I find myself amazed that the “little town of Sugarland” has become one of the best cities in the United States – while Missouri City has to hire outside consultants to figure out a way to improve our image.

In my humble opinion, a city grows and improves when it’s elected officials lead in an effective manner, and fails when those same officials fail at the task. I think that the high taxes, the closed businesses, the poor appearance of many public areas and the constant turmoil clearly indicates the job our current mayor and council are doing.

Time is running out – the voters in Missouri City need to stand up and elect a group of people that will serve the interests of the city and not “special interest groups”. We need a change for the better – and we will not get it by returning the majority of city leaders to office.

I agree that it is a time for a change. A time to get newly elected officials in office, ones that are not only out to see the best interest for Quail Valley but are interested in seeing the city grow and improve as a whole.

We have a choice during election time, whether we will sit back and allow QV to override in casting votes to put Allen Owen back in office or get some one that is ready to lead the city in a new direction.

Guys like Owen and Wyatt have had their time in office and now it is time to remove the goonies and welcome new and refreshing individuals.

We need at least two suitable candidates to come forward to run against both of them and we must be very instrumental in getting them elected, so that we can breath new and refreshing air around Misery City and get rid of that old tired stinch of a smell. These guys are always talking (yap, yap, especially Jerry) yet saying absolutely nothing at all.

JW Why cant we in Missouri City be compared with Sugar Land.. Dont we have lower taxes(no I guess we dont) dont we have term limits so that our officials dont get too comfy with special interest groups (no I guess we dont) dont we get our sidewalks and other city infrastructure repaired like other cities ordinance 46-4 (no I guess we dont) dont we have sections of our city that are in trouble because of neglect by council (that one I guess we have.) Dont we need a golf course that will ultimately cost every tax payer hundreds of dollars( yes we have that) dont we have a council and mayor that will allow apartments in every part of the city ( yes we have that) dont we have a hospital in Missouri City (no I guess we dont) Darn I guess I wouldnt want to be compared with Sugar Land either. Jerry, you should be ashamed of what you and the others have done or should I say have not done In Missouri City in the last 10 years. I think we ned to make a change next year,, they cant do any worse,,heck my dog couldnt do any worse…

#5. joeschmoe- How long have you lived there in Missouri City?
Because Missouri City
is supporting the large
Blue Ridge landfill, east
of the city. A landfill non present around Sugarland.

You are right about the $62,000! We should have voted in new Councilmembers with new ideas instead of relying on the $62,000 to give the City a new look and feel. Missouri City has the potential to be much better than it is but we need men of vision on our City Council. The City could look much better than it does but for years the City has taken a 1960s approach to everything thanks to guys who’ve been serving since that era (almost). Look around- most of the infrastructure is very dated. We should have a town centre and a more decorative approach to our streets, signs, etc. The bigger problem is that the Mayor and Council have neglected and abandoned the older areas of the City so that development could be go unabated on Highway 6. These guys aren’t managing the City, they are being managed by developers.
