Chron: City Manager Frank Simpson said tax revenue that would have been lost to a 3 percent homestead exemption could fund five to seven new patrol officers in the next city budget.

Mayor Allen Owen, who is facing re-election this spring, noted that the exemption would have amounted to a tax cut of about $26.42 for owners of an average Missouri City home.

“I think the citizens of Missouri City would much rather put their $25 toward police on the street,” he said. “If I’m wrong, come May, I guess they can vote me out of office.”
