After Two Very Successful Years FortBendNow Is Closing -- Why is the question many are still asking (was there outside pressure?)

Click the title link for more on FBNs apparent demise...

Comment: Although MCC hasn't always agreed with the editorial slant or handling of the blog we feel the site provided a much needed alternative perspective to local news. I'm sure many companies, special interests and a few politicians are happy, but we are sorry to hear this Bob, so long.

Stay informed and keep in touch!

I for one hate to see this development. Where will one go for unbiased reporting?

Keep in touch Bob.

I know I have attracted more thatn just a few readers to my blog by having them click over from one of my rants on FBN. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, will fill the void that will be left when you fold your tent, Bob.

It’s been great. Good luck.

Oh boy, now instead of finding out about local happenings instantaneously, we’ll have to settle for weekly updates, of not much depth from the Chronicle, Star & Sun.

Have you given any thought to see if your 20K viewers, some of whom probably post regularly, would pay an annual (or monthly) subscription fee to reimburse you for your costs, expenses (and TIME!!)?

My bet is there probably would be some who would pony-up $100 a year for the privilege of posting and participating.

Of course, this would cause you to remain in the business, which probably is adverse to what you’ve already planned.

Anyway, just an idea.

Good luck and prosperity in all of your endeavors!

Bob,
At least you are not thinking of moving away from us. I know your lovely wife and children will be happy to see Dad more often. You will succeed at anything you try! Thanks for “The Ride”, it’s been fun from this side too.

this is the saddest thing since Bambi died.. You did a great job and will be missed.

14 Bob - Oct 16, 01:30 PM

There are priorities in life, and although we often forget it, family really does come first. I remember giving up a teaching position at the University of Houston after we moved further away so that I could have more time with my family. A difficult decision, but one that I have never regretted.

Bob – I really enjoyed your on-line journalism – fair and tough. Best regards and wishes for continued success to you and to your family.

16 Maized&Cornfused - Oct 16, 02:10 PM

This is a sad day for fb county if Mr. Dunn decides to close his site!

Could someone PLEASE amplify on the speculation in the title? (Was there outside pressure?) Perhaps I am blind, but that title is all the reference I see to that possibility. I would like to know more, if there is more.

Apparently the blog-site admin feels there may be more to the story. What do you think it implies?

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can see what it implies. What I'm asking is if there is anything to back it up. Not that I doubt it, mind you - I'd just like the facts to get out there, if any are available. Or for someone (presumably the person who wrote the headline) to do some digging to substantiate the allegation. I'm not saying it isn't possible or even probable. I just want to know where (if anywhere) the substantiation is.

I think it looks like a question to me and not an "allegation". Why don't you call them and find out and let us all know.

Why doesn't the person who wrote the headline do it? That seems logical to me.

Maybe it's just me, but I've always thought that headlines should deal in facts as much as possible. But, again, if it is a question, it seems to me that it's one that the headline writer should answer. Hello, headline writer....?

It would seem to me that you are seeking more depth to this discussion thread. Why don't you call Bob and report back and then we can verify your answers ourselves, since you seem to be the one so concerned about additional answers. Go on call him, don't be frightened.

You miss my point. I'm not frightened, just questioning a headline that is not supported in the text of the post. I'm not the one who wrote the headline.

You seem to be saying that the headline writer really didn't have any info to support the headline. If unsupported statements like this are OK with you, then I guess they're OK with me.

I'm sure it's not good journalism, but this isn't a newspaper, so whatever. Gives me an urge to just make stuff up myself, but I'll try to resist it.

"You seem to be saying that the headline writer really didn't have any info to support the headline. If unsupported statements like this are OK with you, then I guess they're OK with me. "

Again you are trying to put words to someone else's thoughts (sounds like a legalistic trick to me). Also you may want to look up what is a statement versus a question. I still see a question mark in that title, which may mean they want us to discuss it. Who knows, I guess we will never know because YOU do not wish to seek it out.

I'm sure Mr. Dunn takes calls. So just call him and ask? Why is that such a problem for you????

The purpose for the question was to instigate discussion. As many know in 2005-2006 several websites were pressured by a Houston corporation doing business in fort bend county. Fort Bend Now was actually named in documents for one of these lawsuits so none of this is beyond rational speculation and makes for good discussion. Hopefully this satisfies the anonymous posters. If not that's just too bad. As stated earlier this is a blog not a newspaper. We support free speech and free discussion and will continue to keep this site open pressure or NOT.

All are welcome!
