I'm tired of seeing our elected officials engaged in deception of their electorate. From the TX99 segment C fiasco to the "tipping fees" involved with Missouri City council and the county commissioners, I think it's time for a new broom and some GREAT spring cleaning!

It's great to see the TCEQ operating as another dysfunctional state organization completely out of line with their mission. Naturally the could rewrite their mission to an agency designed to protect industry and polluters and that would fix it.

Way to go!

"Precinct 1 County Commissioner Tom Stavinoha, who has been the most vocal endorser of the project, said the company has done good for the community with its annual contribution of a "tipping fee," part of which is used directly toward improvement projects of the area surrounding the landfill."

......"part of which"......

Why isn't the entire amount being used to fund the health care of those living within the waterways impacted by the leachate from Blue Ridge?

Zen,

I would really like to see these tipping fee contracts reviewed by the governing agencies and elected officials who signed off on them. I noticed in some cases that this company also has the current city contracts with Missouri City (lone bidder) and with Sugar Land. I wonder if that has anything to do with their membership in the Greater Fort Bend County Economic Development Council (and the GFBCEDC endorsement of this expansion proposal)? Also it is very interesting that such an organization is seeking an increase in the county taxpayer fees they collect, according to media reports, in the sum of $300k (up from the current $200k). Should taxpayers be carrying this burden or should the large corporate membership? Does the Chamber of Commerce also get this fee/tax too from us?

What possible economic advantage does having a landfill expanded to nearly 20 stories, already with reportedly Barium leaks (in 2005), have for this community? I would like to see ethics/sanity restored to our councils and commissions. I'm embarassed at the excuse given above by Stavinoha in the article. Didn't he used to be a teacher? Why is former vice chair of the GFBEDC and current county judge Bob Hebert so silent on all this now? He endorsed this too when it was announced in 2006 and what about Allen Owen whose city backs up to it? I find it hard to believe that the landfill company is using these contracts of 'non-involvement' as some sort of endorsement of the expansion proposal. That seems like such a reach....
