Chron: TTC Get's Blasted At Local Meeting (click title link for more)-

Nick Lampson (CD-22 Democratic Incumbent) recently voted funding for this project and is not attending these public meetings. . .

OP/ED: Capitol Annex & Fort Bend Independent Refuse To Endorse Ron Reynolds In TXHD 27 Race!

"her opponent, Ron Reynolds, has baggage of his own, as we have noted on this blog before. While Mr. Reynolds has offered an explanation for his troubles with the state bar and promises to be more progressive on issues than Olivo, we simply cannot bring ourselves to offer him . . . our full support. We urge voters in the district to meet these candidates for themselves and make their own decisions." Capitol Annex

After much pressure from some local "D" club members, the editor of "Capitol Annex", a respected media/blog-site, refused to endorse Ron Reynolds primarily based on TX Bar sanctions running concurrently through 2009, civil law-suits against him and other concerns. See this piece for more:

http://capitolannex.com/2008/01/06/tx-hd-27-olivos-opponent-anything-but-responsive-reliable/

This was reported last month in Capitol Annex. What MCC finds the most disturbing in this series of cases by former clients is this quote:

"On Nov. 22, 2005, Ronald E. Reynolds, 31, of Houston, accepted a six-month, partially probated suspension effective March 31, 2006, upon completion of his current active suspension, with the first three months actively served and the remainder probated. An evidentiary panel of the District 4-D Grievance Committee found that Reynolds was retained to represent his client in a personal injury case. In January 2004, Reynolds settled the case without his client’s knowledge or consent. Reynolds then received settlement proceeds from the insurer without notifying his client, negotiated the settlement check without distributing the funds to his client, and misrepresented to his client that he was still working on the case after he had successfully negotiated the settlement check. Reynolds violated Rules 1.01(b)(2), 1.03(a) and (b), 1.14(a) and (b), and 8.04(a)(3). He agreed to pay $350 in attorney’s fees."

We will update this as the race continues. If Mr. Reynolds should defeat the incumbent Olivo, this site will endorse the republican candidate due to the ethics issues above and Mr. Reynolds lack of real involvement in a number of grass-roots efforts like the coalition fighting the landfill expansion, which he has continued to claim to be a part of (without any support from the coalition committee). Until then we are fully supporting Ms. Olvio in her run as the incumbent. She is the only incumbent during this cycle that we will endorse!

FBN: Several Missouri City Neighborhood Leaders Attend First Colony-MC Unofficial City Congress

First Colony Residents Begin Discussions On Neighborhood Priorities
by Jamie Mock

Residents of the portion of First Colony in Missouri City met tonight at the Fort Bend YMCA to begin the process of creating a “position paper” for their neighborhood and to discuss the possibility of endorsing a candidate in this year’s Missouri City Council election.

Greyling Poats, who has announced he will run for mayor but has not yet filed, was in attendance, as well as Noel Pinnock, Kevin Tunstall and Robin Elackatt, who all indicated they are considering running for one of the two at-large positions.

Sidewalks, police and fire pay, development on Hwy. 6, a perceived lack of communication between the city and first colony and de-annexation were discussed.

Sidewalks were a major concern, with many voicing the opinion that the city’s plan will take too long. It was suggested that the city allocate $50,000 a year to the neighborhood for sidewalk repair.

The possibility of de-annexation seemed to be taken off the table quickly, as Tunstall voiced his opinion that it would be “impossible,” because he says if the issue got enough votes to get on the ballot, the current council would “spin” the issue to cause other residents in the city to vote against it to preserve the tax base. . .

Greyling Poats Announces For Missouri Mayoral Race--

The following is the official campaign announcement for Greyling Poats seeking the position of mayor in Missouri City during the May 2008 elections from FortBendWeb.com:

Friends,

With great anticipation of the positive we can make in Missouri City, I am announcing my candidacy for the office of Mayor. The past has taught us Missouri City cannot depend on one subdivision to sustain the standard of living that was the norm here. Our potential is boundless if we use the assets within our corporate city limits and only bring in additional areas to add to our greatness, not deter from the same. Great cities utilize ideas and criticism of it's citizens to prosper and grow, failing cities are staid, barren of new ideas and keep leaders in office far to long eliminating the vitality and vibrancy that it needs. This campaign is not against the incumbent and his cohort. It is a race to vitalize the character and direction of our City.

To assess where we are as a community, one must ask, has the quality of my life improved under the current leadership? Has this administration had ample time to improve the quality of our lives? Have my property values increased while my taxes have been lowered? Have the amenities of my neighborhood and city; doctors offices, hospitals, clinics, schools, grocery stores, churches, coffee shops, golf courses, small businesses, facilities for youth, bookstores, and landfills etc., improved or declined under the current administration? How does my community compare to cities with similar neighborhoods and facilities? Are we better, the same or has this mayor and council let us deteriorate while offering a myriad of excuses on why they cannot do anything to attract businesses and families to Missouri City proper?

Where is the focus of this mayor and council? How often do you hear your neighborhood in a positive light from the current administration? Does this mayor and council spend my tax dollars on enhancements i.e. mobility, drainage, street signs, side-walk repair, bridge construction and improvements, traffic lights, festivals, etc. for the benefit of those who pay MISSOURI CITY TAXES or is their primary concern with the EXTRA TERRITORIAL JURISDICTION that does not pay city property taxes? These are only a few of the questions one must ask when electing a new administration. My campaign request to the Citizens of Missouri City is to critically think about these concerns and other issues you know of before selecting your Mayor. I will file my candidacy for the office of Mayor of Missouri City, Texas. With your help, I and other candidates seeking councilmatic office, will again make Missouri City the preeminent community in Texas.

Two Attempts To Rob Sienna Plantation Gas Station Apparently Fail--

by Jamie Mock with FortBendNow.com, Feb 08, 2008

Missouri City Police logged 44 calls in the past two hours, but believe two incidents at the Exxon station on Sienna Parkway are related. (Read More)

At 10 p.m. last night, a man wearing a red beanie over his head, a gray jumpsuit with black stripes on the sleeve, black gloves and white tennis shoes entered the Exxon at 4225 Sienna Parkway. He placed his hands on the counter, propped himself up, looked over the counter then ran out of the store. The clerk, finding him to be suspicious, called police. Officers checked the area, but didn’t find anything.

The clerk was working back-to-back shifts, and returned to open the store at 4:45 a.m. Today. She arrived at the store, opened the doors, then bent down to pick up some newspapers. As she was bending down, a black man wearing all black with his face partially covered ran towards her with a handgun in his hand. She shut the door behind her and locked it, keeping the man from entering. He then ran away. . .(click title link above for the full story)
